1. Who we are

Korea Jabo is an independent Korean-language study app for people in Bangladesh preparing for the EPS-TOPIK employment exam. It is not affiliated with HRD Korea, the Korean government or BOESL. The app is operated by the Korea Jabo team ("we"). Questions and requests about this policy: support@koreajabo.app.

2. The short version

• No account, email, phone number or name is required to use the app.
• Your learning progress lives on your phone. It is only uploaded if you tap Backup, submit a ranking score, or join an academy with a code.
• Ads are shown through Google AdMob. We request non-personalised ads. Buying a pass removes ads.
• We collect anonymous usage statistics and crash reports to improve the app. They never include your backup code, typed text or voice.
• You can delete everything locally from Settings, and ask us to delete anything stored online.

3. Data that stays on your device

Lesson and alphabet progress, vocabulary review schedule, mock-exam attempts and answers, listening and speaking practice statistics, settings (exam date, daily study minutes, reminder time, Ramadan mode, "I am in Korea", display name), downloaded audio packs, your referral code and whether you used one, and the pass expiry date. This data is stored only in the app's private storage. Reset progress in Settings or uninstalling the app deletes it.

4. Data we store online, and when

The anonymous user ID is created by Firebase Anonymous Authentication on your device. It is a random identifier and is not linked to your Google account, email or phone number.

Backup codes are the key to your backup. Anyone who has the code can restore your progress onto their phone. Keep it private. Backups are kept until you ask us to delete them.

5. Advertising

The free version shows rewarded, interstitial and banner ads from Google AdMob. We ask AdMob for non-personalised ads only and show the Google consent form (UMP) where it is required. AdMob may still collect your device's advertising ID, IP address, coarse location and device information to serve and measure ads, as described in Google's advertising policies. You can reset or delete your advertising ID in Android settings. Users with an active pass or an academy licence see no ads.

6. Purchases

Passes (30 or 90 days) are sold through Google Play Billing and are subject to Google's Privacy Policy. After a purchase, the app sends the purchase token to our server, which checks it with Google Play and records the token so it cannot be reused. Refunds are handled by Google Play.

7. Usage statistics and crash reports

To understand which features are used and to fix crashes we may use PostHog (product analytics) and Sentry (crash reporting). Events are things like "exam completed", "unit finished", "ad watched" or "backup created", together with a random installation identifier, app version, device model, operating system version and language. Crash reports contain the technical stack trace and the same device information. We configure these tools not to collect personal data and we do not send names, backup or referral codes, academy codes, typed text, answers or recordings. Both services are optional for us; a build without their keys sends nothing. You can turn this off at any time in Settings → Privacy → "Send anonymous usage statistics and crash reports"; the app works exactly the same with it off.

8. Microphone and speech

The pronunciation feature uses your phone's built-in speech recognition only while you hold the microphone button. Audio is processed by your device's speech service (usually Google) under its own terms and may be sent to Google's servers for recognition. We do not record, store or transmit your voice. You can deny the microphone permission; the rest of the app works without it.

9. Notifications

Daily study reminders and the exam-eve reminder are scheduled locally on your phone. No push token or schedule is sent to us. You can turn them off in Settings or in Android notification settings.

10. Downloads from our content servers

Audio packs, notices and content updates are downloaded from our static content host (Cloudflare Pages). Like any web server, it receives your IP address and basic request data and keeps standard short-term access logs operated by Cloudflare. We do not use these logs to identify you.

11. Referrals and sharing

Your referral code is generated randomly on your phone. When someone enters your code, only the fact that a code was used is recorded; no contact details are exchanged. The result share card is created on your device and sent only to the app you choose in the share sheet.

12. Where data is processed

Our online services run on Google Cloud (Firebase) and the analytics providers named above, which may process data in the United States, the European Union or South Korea, outside Bangladesh. These providers are bound by their own privacy commitments linked in this policy.

13. How long we keep data

• Backups: until you request deletion.
• Ranking entries: grouped by week; you can ask us to remove yours at any time.
• Academy summaries: until you remove the academy code or ask us to delete them.
• Purchase records: as long as needed to honour the pass and prevent reuse, then for accounting purposes.
• Analytics and crash reports: per the retention settings of PostHog and Sentry, typically up to 90 days.

14. Your choices and rights

• Delete local data: Settings → Reset progress, or uninstall the app.
• Delete online data: email support@koreajabo.app with your backup code and/or ranking display name. See Delete my data for details. We delete within 30 days.
• Access or correction: email us and we will send you the data stored under your backup code.
• Usage statistics and crash reports: switch them off in Settings → Privacy.
• Ads: buy a pass to remove ads, or reset your advertising ID in Android settings.
• Microphone and notifications: control them in Android app permissions and settings.

We honour these requests for all users regardless of where they live.

15. Security

All traffic between the app and our services uses HTTPS. Firestore security rules restrict each anonymous user to their own backup, ranking entry and purchase records. Server-side purchase verification runs in Cloud Functions with a service account that has read-only access to Google Play purchase status.

16. Children

The EPS-TOPIK exam is open to adults aged 18 to 39, and the app is intended for that audience. It is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect data from them. If you believe a child has used the online features, contact us and we will delete the data.

17. Changes to this policy

We will post updates here and inside the app (Settings → Privacy policy). The effective date at the top shows the current version. Material changes will be announced in the app's Notices section.
